Pangolins are among the mammal group that are threatened in the world. This is because of their body parts have been used for a variety of uses such as bushmeat, traditional medicines, and other forms of cultural practices. There is massive illegal offtake of pangolins and their parts with the beliefs that this animal can treat various illness like excessive bleeding, menstrual cramping and pains for females also can treat heart disease, nose bleeds, high blood pressure, chest pains, blood cleansing, general health and well-being, hearing problems, nose bleed, skin problems-dry skin, skin rashes. However, scientists found that there is no evidence of pangolins with the treatment of these illness. People from various parts of the world continue to collect pangolins without having knowledge that this species is about to extinct because of poaching and beliefs. Tanzania has three out of four pangolin species found in African continent. Poaching for pangolins and lack of awareness about pangolin ecology and their threats are among of challenges facing pangolin conservation in Tanzania. Despite of alarms highlighted by many researchers from different parts of the world about this species, Tanzania has no national actional plan, and even the baseline information about the population size is lacking. Tanzania Research and Conservation Organization (TRCO) would like to raise pangolin flag in Tanzania and is seeking funding support to in order to address these issues in collaboration with government and non-government institutions.
